In the small town of River Black, Texas, sits the Triple C—a working cattle ranch that sustains the town. But it also holds painful memories and shocking secrets for the Cavanaugh brothers....

When the Cavanaugh brothers return home for their father’s funeral, they discover unexpected evidence of the old man’s surprising double life—a son named Blue, who wants the Triple C Ranch as much as they do. The eldest son, Deacon, a wealthy businessman who couldn’t wait to leave the ranch and move on with his life, is looking to use his powerful connections to stop Blue at any cost. He never expected the ranch’s forewoman, Mackenzie Byrd, to get in his way.

Mac knows Deacon means to destroy the ranch and therefore destroy her livelihood. But as the two battle for control, their attraction builds. Now Deacon is faced with the choice of a lifetime: Take down the Triple C to feed his need for revenge, or embrace the love of the one person who has broken down every barrier to his heart.

A family full of secrets, a ranch in trouble, and a woman who will stop at nothing to save them both. BRANDED is a first in a brand new series by the always talented Laura Wright. Being familiar with her HELLA SEXY paranormal books with the Mark of the Vampire Series, I had no doubt that Ms. Wright would bring the heat in a Contemporary Western Romance such as this gem. Lorelei James is usually my GO TO author for this genre, but Laura Wright just moved herself up on that very list. Scorching, emotional, and exciting, BRANDED kept me up till the wee hours of the morning. I was too engrossed in Deacon and Mac’s story to even think about putting this baby down early.

❝I know I’ve never tasted anything better than your mouth. No hotter, sweeter place in the world.❞

Deacon Cavanaugh is the first Cavanaugh brother we get our hands on. Being the eldest, he has no problem saying what he wants, when he wants, to whomever he wants. He is gorgeous, successful, and filthy rich. He is also holding a tremendous grudge against his family’s Triple C Ranch. He wants it gone…like yesterday. The memories it holds is tearing him, as well as his family apart. Returning home for his father’s funeral, Deacon is determined to finally put this thing to rest, and purchase his brother’s shares of the ranch, and destroy it once and for all. Piece of cake…right? Not so much! Mackenzie Byrd, the Triple C Ranch’s foreman is practically family. She has known the Cavanaugh’s ever since she was a little girl. She knows what Deacon Cavanaugh is up to and she plans on putting the brakes on that real quick.  When a bombshell is dropped on the family during the reading of the father’s will, this quick destruction of the ranch turns into a week-long visit, where Mac tries to convince Deacon that destroying his family’s home will not bring him peace, but maybe, just maybe, the connection they both share, will bring him the freedom from whatever hell he is going through.

❝I want you to know that every breath, every sound, every drop of sweet cream from your hot pussy makes me the happiest fucking man in the world.❞

Even though he pissed me off quite a bit in this book, I still ended up falling in love with Deacon Cavanaugh. Nothin’ like a sexy country boy who can pull of jeans, t-shirt, and a Stetson AND make you melt in a three-piece suit. Mackenzie Byrd was a very strong female lead in this book, and I loved that I could relate with her on a couple of levels. These characters can take what they can dish out. The back and forth, the love/hate relationship that these two had, kept a smile on my face the whole way through. Compelling, sexy, and thrilling, BRANDED sucked me in until the very last page. I’m in love with the Cavanaugh brothers now, and I can’t wait to see what Laura Wright has in store for the remaining members of the family. You can say to yourself that you don’t like Western Romances, but this has a touch of the city in it, and I think it will satisfy your contemporary romance addictions.

The Cavanaugh brothers left behind River Black, Texas, long ago. But after their father dies, bequeathing them the Triple C, a cattle ranch that sustains their small town, they return—and confront the painful memories of their childhood home and the truth about their sister’s murder…

For years, James Cavanaugh has traveled the world as a horse whisperer, but even the millions he’s earned hasn’t healed the pain he hides behind his stoic exterior. Forced to tackle old demons at the ranch, James throws himself into work to avoid his true feelings. Until he meets a woman who shakes the foundations of his well-built walls…

Sheridan O’Neil’s quiet confidence has served her well, except when it comes to romance. Tired of rejection, she’s ready to swear off men. But after being rescued from a horse stampede by the most beautiful cowboy she’s ever met, her resolve wavers. Only, as Sheridan uncovers James’s belief that no woman is safe with him, she wonders if such a wounded man could ever give in to love, or if some hearts are too broken to be healed…

About Laura Wright

Writing is my Obsession

Unlike many of my peers in the writing world, I wasn’t a writer or a reader until I left high school. During my youth I was into theater, song and dance, commercials and boys. I loved romance surely, but I had never read a romance novel until my late teens. With that said, I remember the day I did like it was a moment ago – my aunt gave me the Jude Deveraux novel, Knight in Shining Armor and I couldn’t put it down until the very last word. Then I went straight to the library and got another – then another until I’d read everything she’d ever written. After that, it was McNaught, Howard, Schone, Kleypas, and the Silhouette line, Desire. I instantly loved those emotional, sexy reads, so much so that I began to carve out ideas for my own stories, themes that were unique to me and moved me. In 1997 I enrolled in UCLA extension writing classes, met my mentor and critique partners and since have never stopped writing. I was committed then and I still am now; the need to tell my own romantic stories a full on obsession. My first manuscript was rejected, and though the second one was as well the editor who’d rejected it wanted to see something else from me. I had something (note to authors; always keep working, even after you’ve sent in a proposal) and sent it right away. The day I got the call telling me Desire wanted to buy Cinderella and the Playboy was the best day of my life. That is until I married my husband, and had my two beautiful children. But I must say, writing is much like motherhood – tough, grueling, surprising, delicious and for me, a dream come true.

I was born and raised in Minnesota. It’s where my love of all things green, wet and grown in the ground comes from. As you read above, before writing I was an actor, singer and dancer, specifically a BALLROOM dancer – an instructor and competitor as well. That work took me to many places like New York, Ohio and Wisconsin. I live in Los Angeles now, but I’m always thinking about greener pastures – literally.
