There is a place in modern day America with no electricity, no plumbing, and no modern conveniences. In this place, there is no room for dreams, no space for self-expression, and no tolerance for ambition.

In this place, there is a boy with the body of a God and the heart of a warrior. He is strong and faithful and serves his family honorably. But he dares to dream of more.

In this place, there is a girl with the face of an angel and a heart full of courage. To her family, she is the vision of obedient perfection. But she dares to want that which she has been told can never be hers.

Becoming Calder is the story of good versus evil, fear versus bravery, and the truth that the light of love has always found its way into even the darkest of places... From the beginning of time, to the end of the world.

THIS IS THE FIRST PART IN A TWO-PART SIGN OF LOVE SERIES INSPIRED BY AQUARIUS. THE SECOND PART, FINDING EDEN, WILL RELEASE SIMULTANEOUSLY. New Adult Contemporary Romance: Due to strong language and sexual content, this book is not intended for readers under the age of 18.

My Thoughts

Beautiful! Brilliant! Heartbreaking! I feel like I’ve been holding my breath the whole way through. After devouring Archer’s Voice earlier this year, I fell in LOVE with Mia Sheridan’s writing. Becoming Calder has to be one of the best reads EVER. No, not just this year…EVER! Outstanding work! Ms. Sheridan needs to be careful, because I am just going to expect that each book she releases, I will be absolutely BLOWN AWAY!

Oh, where do I begin…I have to tread carefully with this one to not give much away, but believe me when I tell you that not only will you adore Calder and Eden, and even Xander, you will no doubt fall madly in love with them. They have buried themselves in my heart with no plans to disengage any time soon.

Let’s start off with the Prologue, the prologue to end all prologues. Intriguing, captivating, full of angst, and that is just in the first couple of pages. We are given a vision of a young woman wandering through a city. She has nothing but a few things to her name. She was forced to let go of everything she had, everything she worked for, and now she is just lost and alone. Flashbacks of her past gives us a very small glimpse of where she came from, what she went through, and who she left behind. It leaves us with even more questions. Who is this love that she speaks of? How did she get to where she is now? What the hell happened to her? At this point in time, your heart breaks for her. You want to jump in the story and help her, calm her, take all of her demons away. FYI – this is 1 out of about 30 times your heart will clench during this read. You better be prepared….tissues, CHECK….wine, CHECK….pillow to scream in, CHECK!

Back to the story…now you are transported to a secluded community, detached from normal society. There is no electricity and no running water. Calder is apart of this community and calls it his home. This is all he knows. At a young age, the people are taught that the gods will provide all that they needed, and being selfish is a sin, and that one day, the way they live will lead them to paradise.

Eden is brought in to the community as a child, and the moment Eden and Calder laid eyes on each other, even as young as they were, their destiny was written. Eden was introduced to the community as their to-be mother and the one who will help lead them to paradise. Calder knew what her place was, and so did Eden, but that didn’t deter them from seeking each other’s company. First, as young children playing games, up to young adults discovering the world around them. The connection they have was immediate and unavoidable. It’s intense and it grows day by day, as does their love for one another. They eventually have a huge choice to make. Live the life that you were told, or follow their hearts, their minds, and their souls and live the life that they want….together.

Becoming Calder is a story about love. It is a story about a love SO STRONG that absolutely nothing can break it. Everything was against Calder and Eden. The events that occurred, and the decisions they made, just reaffirmed how ridiculously strong they were. They wanted freedom, they wanted to be together. They were willing to risk the unknown for a chance at that freedom.

Ok wow! Just writing about this story, is already bringing tears to my eyes and pains to my stomach. I think I blinked a total of 5 times and let out just a couple of breaths during this read. I read it in one night. There was just absolutely no other option for me. I dare you to try to put this book down once you begin. There is no way in hell. I already knew that Mia Sheridan was a genius, but with Becoming Calder, she just reaffirmed it for me and then some. Never have I been so incredibly swept away by a book before. Never have I fell in love so deeply with characters in a book before. I cherish it. I adore it. It never will leave my mind. This passionate, forbidden, amazing love story is one for the books. If there was some kind of Book Hall of Fame, Becoming Calder and Mia Sheridan would be proudly showcased. If I only could read one author’s work in my life, it would be, hands down, Mia Sheridan.

*Finding Eden, the sequel and conclusion, will release the same day as Becoming Calder.*

  1. All right Shayna, I hope to God that when my book comes out, you review it and love it because your enthusiasm is so infectious any author is lucky to catch you! Even I have purchased your recommendations-I can’t wait to read Sheridan’s Books. I also love Sylvia Day and your future guest blogger, Sylvain Reynard. My hat is off, my pompoms are in the air, in salute to your fabulous voice, a literary cheerleader…have you thought of writing your own book? You really know how to string together a word or two :0
