From the USA Today bestselling author of True, Sweet, andBelieve comes a tantalizing New Adult novel about finding love in the most unexpected ways…

Kylie Warner prides herself on being optimistic, but after finding her best friend in bed with her boyfriend and flunking chemistry, her upbeat attitude has taken a dive. Even an impromptu hook-up with her sexy new chemistry tutor only brightens her mood slightly. After all, it’s not like she’ll ever see the tattooed scholar again…

While he’s a whiz at complex equations, Jonathon Kadisch has trouble when it comes to figuring out women. So when Kylie tells him that she’s pregnant after their night of passion, he’s at a complete loss. He’s prepared to be a good father—unlike his own deadbeat dad—but he’s less prepared to fall for the genuine and alluring blonde bearing his child.

With emotions running high, Kylie wonders if Jonathon’s devotion is out of growing love or looming obligation. And when heartbreak threatens to tear them apart, Jonathon will have to fight for the only girl who’s ever made him feel whole…

My Thoughts

I thoroughly enjoyed SHATTER by Erin McCarthy. Once again, Ms. McCarthy takes us on a journey of real life issues with her amazing characters. My emotions were on full alert in SHATTER, bringing me close to tears on multiple occasions. With the characters quick wit and hilarious banter, this writing style reminded me of the work of the incredibly hilarious Alice Clayton. It’s smart writing, it’s hilarious writing, and it is the type of writing that hooks you from the very first chapter. I find myself having a hard time relating to characters of the New Adult genre, but Ms. McCarthy makes it easy to relate because of the complicated, relatable situations she often puts them in.

How many of you had a situation back in college, where you found yourself in a sticky situation, and you thought your life was over? I can tell you that I had multiple situations being such a drama queen back in the day. For that reason, I was able to instantly relate to Kylie. We are kindred spirits, her and I. Kylie was a hopeful, caring, optimistic woman. That is until she found her best friend in bed with her boyfriend. Now her ex-boyfriend is trying to win her back, making excuses, and spewing apologies all over the place. On top of that she is failing chemistry. That optimistic attitude has gone right down the toilet. Trying out a chemistry tutor is the only way she can have a chance in hell at passing that class. Jonathon Kadisch is smart…I mean BIG BANG THEORY smart. Picture a really good looking Sheldon Cooper. Got it? Good! I bet you can’t stop grinning now! You will soon figure out what I mean. He instantly is attracted this quirky, beautiful student, and finds her ignorance of chemistry endearing. He doesn’t have luck with women…ever, and he knows he shouldn’t do anything with a student, no less, but the chemistry between these two is just too damn strong to resist. Chemistry is the last thing on either of their minds once Kylie invites Jonathon into her apartment. The best one night stand ever ends up changing their lives forever.

Kylie and Jonathon were great characters to get to know. I loved how easy and comfortable they were together, even though they came from such different worlds. I love how accepting Jonathon was when it came to Kylie’s situation. Of course there were times when you wanted to knock their heads together, but for the most part, I loved how strong these two were, together and apart. SHATTER was a great, satisfying, funny, emotional read. It is a part of the True Believers Series, but just like all of them, they can be read as a stand alone.
