Erin Upton is too embarrassed to tell the cops what she was really doing while her townhouse was burglarized, especially since the first officer on the scene is former nuisance next door Charlie Dwyer. Where’s the justice in the world when a neighborhood know-it-all grows up to be six-foot-three inches of solid muscle with gorgeous green eyes and a slow, sexy please-arrest-me-now-officer smile? It’s bad enough she’s wearing her robe and slippers—did he have to notice her fuzzy hand cuffs on the bathroom sink?
He’s arrogant as he ever was, which is fine by her—she’s too busy with her dance studio’s grand opening to make time for a man. But they keep crossing paths, and
when Charlie offers to help her put in new flooring at the studio one night, things go from hammering nails to hammering each other in a hurry. And about those hand cuffs…
They agree it’s a one-time thing. But when that becomes a two-time thing, then a three-time thing, Erin starts to wonder if maybe she and Charlie could be a life-time thing. Her best friends Mia and Coco found love in unexpected places. Is it finally her turn?
Melanie Harlow has written her best work yet. FLOORED was such a fun, sexy read with plenty of laugh out loud moments and sexy, intense love scenes. The sexual chemistry between Charlie and Erin flew off the pages, leaving me in a constant state of euphoria. I enjoyed EVERY. SINGLE. THING. about this book! FLOORED has a quirky and relatable heroine, a filthy-talkin’ sexy hero, and an attraction that was explosive and undeniable. If you are looking for a feel good, sexy and romantic love story, look no further. This is that gem!
Remember when you were young, and there was that one little kid that always teased you and called you names? Oh, come on, we’ve all had one of those! Well, meet Erin Upton and Charlie Dwyer. Charlie was that annoying kid who always made fun of Erin, and she NEVER forgot about it. Fast-forward years later, and Charlie (all grown up and all kinds of sexy AND wearing a uniform *swoon*) is the officer that responds to a 911 call from Erin after she realizes she has been robbed. OMG! And the situation she was in while she was getting robbed is HILARIOUS! I could NOT stop laughing through that first scene.
When she sets her sights on Charlie, all of those feelings from when she was younger come tumbling over her, leaving her frustrated, sexually and otherwise. She can’t help her attraction, and she can sense that he feels it to. After getting a lecture on house safety and a reminder that she is all alone, Erin thought that was the last she would see of Charlie Dwyer. She thought wrong! When one SCORCHING HOT night of passion turns into 2 nights, and then 3 nights, and so on and so forth, the term, “just friends” becomes impossible to apply to their relationship. Erin feels it, but Charlie is hiding something MAJOR that is preventing him to go all in. FLOORED is a fun, steamy romance full of hilarious and deep moments. This is a story about not letting your past mistakes define who you are today. Live for today. Live for tomorrow. And live for the future you could have with the one you love.
The FRENCHED series is a beautiful series that begins and ends in La Ville Lumière” (The City of Light). It’s sad that this has come to an end, but Ms. Harlow has done these stories and the characters justice. These characters will forever be in my heart, and this series will always be at the top of my list!
Hi Melanie! Welcome to Shayna Renee’s Spicy Reads! We are so happy you could join us today and talk about the FRENCHED series and your new release FLOORED, which I absolutely ADORED by the way. It was such a fun, sexy read. Can you please introduce yourself to our readers and tell us a couple of interesting facts about you?
Thanks for the interview! And thank you for the compliments. I have one for you—your graphic teasers are my favorite things in the world! So now I will try to be interesting, but no promises… I’m Melanie Harlow and I write sexy contemporary (Frenched series) and historical (Speak Easy duet) romance. I live outside Detroit with my husband and two daughters and very, VERY few people in my real life know I write and publish sexy books. I won’t even let my mother read them, although I finally admitted that I write them.
Erin and Charlie are the main characters in FLOORED and the sexual chemistry between them flew off the pages. What, for you, constitutes ‘sexy’?
Intelligence is sexy. Confidence. Class. I like a man who knows how to be a wolf and a gentleman, and recognizes which one is called for in a given moment. I also think a sense of humor is sexy as hell.
In the first book in the series, FRENCHED, you took us on Mia’s journey to Paris where she ended up falling for Lucas. What made you choose Paris? Have you, yourself fallen in love in La Ville Lumière?
I love Paris! My father took me for the first time when I was 11, and I’ve been back probably half a dozen times. I adore the history and architecture and parks and food and wine and language and coffee. Can’t forget the coffee. I have never fallen in love there, but I have been there with someone I love, and it was delightfully romantic.
I know every other probably hates this question, but do you have a favorite character from your FRENCHED series? And if not a ‘favorite’ per se, how about one character that you couldn’t get out of your head, long after the book was written.
Hmmm. That’s a good question, actually! I love them all, but I think probably Mia. Her voice was always very clear to me inside my head.
I can safely say that Erin Upton was my favorite character from the series. I related with her in every way possible. I am constantly cleaning, rearranging, and organizing things. I’m looking for perfection all the time, and it sometimes drives other people crazy. I guess I need my very own Charlie to keep me on my toes LOL. Which character(s) are you most relatable to?
Probably Mia here, too. I’m a creature of habit and I like things planned out. I like lists and schedules and maps. The only thing I like better than making a list is crossing things off my lists! Sometimes I write items on my list I’ve already done just so I can have the satisfaction of crossing them off. Hahaha. And it’s hard for me to relax sometimes, if things aren’t going the way I thought they would. I get Mia in that way.
And the final question that everyone is dying to know, what’s next for Melanie Harlow?
More books, I hope! I’m not writing anything yet, just letting a few ideas simmer in my brain.
Thanks so much for sharing with us and your readers!
“Stop it. I’m not perfect. I’m not what you think.”
Charlie tilted his head. “No?”
I licked my lips. “You think I’m a joke. The “Teacher’s Pet. The Homecoming Queen. The Goody Two Shoes who likes everything just so, everything neat and clean. Well, I don’t, you know. Like everything clean.”
Charlie said nothing at first. But his stillness told me he was intrigued. A lovely little ache blossomed between my legs.
“You like some things dirty. Is that what you’re saying?”
“Yes,” I whispered, butterflies rioting in my belly.
“I’m not sure you do.”
Slowly, he came off the counter. Bracing my hands behind my hips, I opened my knees, and he stepped between them, sliding his hands up the tops of my thighs. He was so tall, I had to tilt my head back to look at him. Up close his chest was even more imposing, and his shoulders seemed to dwarf mine. Gooseflesh rippled down my arms, and my breaths came fast.
By contrast, Charlie seemed completely in control. His breathing was slow and measured, his hands moving over my hips and beneath my sweatshirt. His eyes stayed locked on mine as his palms slid up the sides of my ribcage and back down, spanning my waist. “Such a tiny little thing.”
“Scared you’ll break me?”
“Yes.” In the near dark, his blue eyes looked black.
In less than a second, Charlie pulled off three moves that had me gasping for air—he yanked me to my feet, turned me around, and kicked my heels apart so my legs were spread and I was bent over the island, arms pinned behind my back. His legs pressed the backs of my thighs, and his hips pushed against my ass.
He was hard.
The power went out completely.
Oh my fucking God.
“Panting, I lay my cheek on the cool marble, unsure of what to do next. Between my ears, the message was this is scary. Between my legs, it was this is hot.
“No, don’t give up. Fight me. Come on. Struggle.” His voice was different now—deeper, quieter even, yet more intimidating.
Adrenaline coursed through my body, my heart pounding with fear, with arousal, with shock. I tried moving my arms—he pulled them tighter, clamped my wrists harder. I tried moving my legs—he pinned my hips against the marble, his erection pushing firmly into my flesh. I flexed my fingers—he laughed softly.
“That’s it. Try everything. Scream if you like.”
I couldn’t scream even if I wanted to. It felt like the darkness had weight, like it was bearing down on my back with a force stronger than gravity. Breathing required all the lung strength I had, and I wasn’t even sure I could keep that up.
“Tell me I’m hurting you.”
He was hurting me.
But I liked it.
He yanked my arms mercilessly behind me. “Tell me.”
“You’re hurting me,” I said weakly.
“Tell me to stop.”
“Stop.” Don’t stop.
“Tell me you don’t want this from me.”
“I don’t—want this—from you.” Each word was its own struggle. I meant the words, and yet I didn’t. I wanted him, but knew I shouldn’t. And was this only a game? Was he just testing me? Or, worse, was he back there laughing at me in the dark? I had no way to tell.
“Good girl. You don’t want this from me, sweet thing.” He backed off slightly and somehow imprisoned both my wrists with one of his hands. The other one snaked around to my belly.
And down the front of my pants.
