Defining Us: The Story of Calvin & Eric is a Standalone, Full Length Novel. Can be read without reading the other books in this series.
Loving someone completely means giving them your heart, soul, body and mind. What happens when your heart and soul love someone, but your mind and body refuse to follow?
For Calvin Caldwell, being the lead guitarist of America’s hottest rock band 69 Bottles has its perks. Performing night after night with his closest friends, he finds peace with a guitar in his hands. Playing music wipes away his unimaginable past, albeit temporarily. He struggles not only with who he is as a person, but with who he wants to become and what he is hiding.
Being in love with someone certainly isn’t the problem. He’s been in love for a long time, but what defines him is what keeps him from the person he loves.
Seeing something you so desperately want, but can’t have…
Eric Richardson knows exactly what he wants out of life.
He wants to play bass with his friends because performing gives him a high better than any drug he’s ever used. Being on stage is where he feels most comfortable.
But what happens when being on stage is no longer enough to satisfy him? What happens when the person he loves, doesn’t love him in return?
You fight for it.
You define it.
You prove it.
A rock band, A tour bus, One wild ride…

❝Love is love, no matter what body parts we have.❞
I’m overwhelmed! I’m ecstatic! I’m over the moon over this book! DEFINING US is Zoey’s BEST WORK yet! I’ve never been more proud of an author than I am right now. Derrick’s 69 Bottles Series is her best series she’s ever written. Each and every character has touched my heart and soul in some way. But there is a special place in there for Calvin and Eric. Ever since the beginning I’ve been drawn to them. I’m guessing the author didn’t even know what she had planned for them at the time, but I knew, I just knew, they would have a spectacular story. I finished this book a couple of days ago and I’m still rubbing my chest, trying to sooth the ache of their journey. This story of unimaginable pain, personal growth, and conquering fear will tear you apart and carefully mend you back together. It’s been a while since a book has completely overwhelmed me to the point of not being able to get it out of my head. DEFINING US, Calvin and Eric’s story will forever have a piece of my heart.
Bruises always fade away, but the love they had for each other was permanent. There is struggle. There is pain. There is conflict. There is also compassion, devotion, tenderness, and friendship.
❝Do you ever look at someone and all you can see when you look at them is something that can only be described as ‘home’?❞
I want a love like this. I want that sense of ‘home’. You have to ask yourself, “Is it worth it?” Is this kind of love worth all of the pain and suffering? If you ask Calvin and Eric? HELL YES it is! With every page came a new emotion, and with every new emotion came a new sense of appreciation that the author had the guts to write a romance like this. Every word, every chapter, every moment in this book was full of so much heart. This book was a long time coming and it hit every single one of my buttons. All I have left to say is, THANK YOU! Thank you Zoey Derrick for doing Calvin and Eric’s story justice. I’ve never wished more happiness on a book couple than I do with these two. Bravo my friend. Bravo.
