Sadie Hunt isn’t perfect—but her husband is. Nathan Hunt has her coffee waiting every morning. He holds her hand until the last second. He worships the Manhattan sidewalk she walks on. Until one day, he just…stops. And Sadie finds herself in the last place she ever expected to be. Lonely in her marriage.

When rugged and sexy Finn Cohen moves into the apartment across the hall, he and Sadie share an immediate spark. Finn reveals dreams for a different life. Sadie wants to save her marriage. Their secrets should keep them apart, not ignite a blistering affair. But while Sadie’s marriage runs colder by the day, she and Finn burn hotter.

Her husband doesn’t want her anymore.
The man next door would give up everything to have her.

TOP PICK 2016

my thoughts

WOW! I mean…WOW! This was a phenomenal read! Jessica Hawkins is a brand new author to me and she just blew my freakin’ mind! SLIP OF THE TONGUE just attached itself to me and would not let go. It was relentless, painful, all-consuming. It yanked hard on my heart and played with my mind. I didn’t know whether to hug or kill these characters! I gotta tell you, this book made me grow as a romance reader. I’m not a real big fan of cheating in romance reads, but Hawkins does it in a way that is tasteful and not so intentional. Readers, you will see right away that some reviewers wouldn’t even pick this up because of the cheating factor, but I’m here to tell you that there is so much more to this than that, and you will immediately understand what these characters are going through to lead to that bad and tragic decision. I surprised myself when I picked this as a TOP PICK, but with the solid writing, the emotional pull, and the heartbreaking plot, there was just no denying it. SLIP OF THE TONGUE instantly became a favorite read of the year for me!

Just like our female lead, Sadie, I was at war with my heart and my mind with this one. I’ll be honest and say that there were times I wanted to give up. There were times where I wanted to throw my iPad across the room. But I had faith in this author….trust and faith to take me where she wanted her readers to go.

This was far from a perfect romance, but it stole my heart anyway. With a forbidden element that will punched me in the gut, there was absolutely NO turning back once you begin. You may think you want this story to end a certain way, but be careful what you wish for. This author will blow everything out of the water. Loneliness, betrayal, intense passion, grief, hopelessness…you will experience all of these and more. You have no idea what you are in for. Your heart will be tugged in every possible direction.

Chock-full of angst and overwhelming passion and seduction, SLIP OF THE TONGUE will put you on your ass and break your fucking heart. But I guarantee by the end, your soul will be healed.

I want to wrap this review up with a sneak peek into my thoughts while reading

SLIP OF THE TONGUE:

19% ~ WHAT. THE. HELL?!?!

22% ~ I can’t believe him!!!!!!

35% ~ You FUCKER….you can’t have it both ways!!!!!!!

79% ~ HE HAS NO FUCKING RIGHT!!!

85% ~ oh….NOW he decides to grow a pair and fight??!?!?!?!?!

Enlightening is it not? Be prepared to FIGHT your mind through this journey! This book will push you. It will push your boundaries as a romance reader. But you got this. YOU. GOT. THIS.
