Introduced in Toni Aleo’s Bellevue Bullies Series, it’s the Sinclair brothers’ big sister’s turn to find love in the next installment of the New York Times and USA Today best-selling series, the Assassins.
Lucy Sinclair was no stranger to pain.
She grew up with three younger brothers, met a bad boy, got pregnant by him, married him, and then suffered through a nasty divorce from him. Pain. That was pain. To top it off, she even had to go through the heartbreaking divorce of her parents. Through it all, she survived. All she cared about was making sure her daughter was happy and taken care of. Despite an ex-husband hell-bent on ruining her life, she fought to overcome. She’s gotten to the point that she’s okay with being just okay. She never cared about herself because she never had the time. It was Angie and only Angie she focused on, but that all changed when Benji Paxton offered to help her daughter on the ice.
Benji knew the moment he saw Lucy, he’d never be the same. Especially when she came with the bundle of crazy that was her daughter. His heart wasn’t ready for them. After years spent sobering up and finding who he was without the alcohol, he never forgot he was being punished for not appreciating the love he had when he was younger. Because of his past, he had gotten used to being alone, a recluse, but even he had to admit it was getting old. He was lonely. Hockey wasn’t enough anymore. He wanted a family; he wanted his true love.
And Lucy and Angie were just that.
They were just two lost souls.
Floating through life with no purpose.
But finding each other gave them direction, a chance at a future.
And had them both Rushing the Goal to be together.
This book wrecked me! I was up until 3am with tear stains down my face. It was incredibly beautiful and absolutely heartbreaking. A series favorite for sure!
I’m fairly new to Toni Aleo’s work. I’ve read a couple, both being from the Assassins series, and I pretty much fell in love right away. But something about RUSHING THE GOAL stood out to me, and made this a series favorite, even though I haven’t devoured the entire series, but they are shooting up my TBR list pretty quickly. I think I enjoyed it so much because it was a good break from the suspenseful romances I’ve been reading lately. No major drama, no major suspense…just a wonderful and touching romance that you will consume in one night.
Love stories are tough when there is a kid from a previous lover involved. Romance readers get touchy on this subject if you don’t do it right, myself included. The way Aleo introduced the characters just made it work. It was flawless and beautiful and emotional. I couldn’t take my eyes off the pages. Some people say this was an insta-love story, but I don’t see it that way at all. It was an insta-lust that slowly grew to something super special.
I love how Lucy Sinclair was such a tough nut to crack for Benji. She is a kick ass, independent, sassy woman, and she has every right to be. She had to grow up tough or she would have gotten stomped all over. She holds her own in this story and I loved every second of it. I loved how Benji didn’t back down and worked for her affection and eventually wore her down.
I could go on and on about Lucy and Benji and how sexy, romantic, and swoon-worthy their love story was, but to be honest, Angie (Lucy’s beautiful, spit fire of a daughter) stole the show. She was just like her momma, and her interactions with Benji broke my heart.
All in all, this was a fabulous, swept away romance that had me swooning from head to toe. Find out how two people, who were hiding behind excuses, finally let down walls and let love in, in RUSHING THE GOAL.
