She’s the only one who ever loved him—and the only one he can never have.
Jude lost everything one spring day when he crashed his car into an apple tree on the side of the road. A man is dead, and there's no way he can ever right that wrong. He’d steer clear of Colebury, Vermont forever if he could. But an ex-con in recovery for his drug addiction can’t find a job just anywhere.
For Sophie Haines, coming face to face with the man who broke her heart is gut-wrenching. Suddenly, he’s everywhere she turns. It’s hard not to stare at how much he’s changed. The bad boy who used to love her didn’t have big biceps and sun-kissed hair. And he’d never turn up volunteer in the church kitchen.
She knows it’s foolish to yearn for the man who returned all the heartsick letters she wrote him in prison. But the looks he sends her now speak volumes.
No one wants to see Sophie and Jude back together, least of all Sophie's police chief father. But it's a small town. And forbidden love is a law unto itself.
I KNEW IT! I knew that this book was going to obliterate my heart! I knew it was going to break me in two, and yet when the moment came and I dove in to Jude’s book, I was surprised at the impact of emotions that overwhelmed me. STEADFAST was just Incredible! The amount of depth and emotion that flies off of every single page is absolutely astounding! We first met Jude in book one of the True North Series, BITTERSWEET (which was another FANTASTIC read). I knew he had a heartbreaking story to tell. I absolutely devoured BITTERSWEET, but I gotta tell you, I wanted Jude’s book IMMEDIATELY. I needed, no I CRAVED to find out more of what made this broken man tick. When STEADFAST popped up on my iPAD I was SO SO elated, I couldn’t even sit still. From reading other early reviewer’s reactions, I was prepared with a glass of wine and a box of tissues. I was never more ready to start this emotional journey with these beautifully broken characters.
“All we’ve ever had were stolen moments,”
The book starts off with a Dear Reviewer page where the author talks about how realistic Jude’s journey really is…how he isn’t your typical hero, but a a true hero none the less. And guess what? I already had tears in my eyes, and I hadn’t even started the goddamn book yet! This treasure of a book was put together so well. The author gives us dual POVs, which was impeccably well done. We go through Jude’s CRAVING METER in each of his’ chapters, and with Sophie, we are notified of what’s currently playing on her Internal Playlist. It sets the mood brilliantly with chapter and just gets me more excited to get to the next. The author also takes us back to the past. Now this is where I cried the most. To know what these two went through together and apart…how they fell in love and they couldn’t have been more different, but they didn’t let that stop them. OH GOD! I’m tearing up while writing this!!! I need more tissues and I’m already done with the book! LOL!
“The only thing I have ever been afraid of is losing you.”
WOW! I didn’t know Sarina Bowen had the ability to bring me to my knees with her writing. I only recently discovered her work, and she is quickly becoming one of my favorites in this genre. This series is just PHENOMENAL. I find myself going about my day, and all of sudden I would have a flash back of something that happened in the book, and I couldn’t do anything else. What an experience to have! I enjoyed it immensely, and can’t wait for KEEPSAKE, which is Zach’s book. Oh my! That is going to be a major TREAT! I’m practically giddy just thinking about it.
“I will do everything in my power to be good for you,”
To close this review out, I’m begging you to read this book…and all books in this series. It’s downright perfect for an emotional romance reader, like myself. Be warned, this does cover topics like addiction, drug-use, and domestic abuse. It may have some triggers for some people. In the end this is a hard-fought love story that will give you hope. It will take you on a journey that is rough and rugged, but you will come out stronger because of it.
