The boy next door. That’s what he was. Dash Frasier—my hero from the day we met, when I was six and he was nine. His sister was my best friend, the three of us one happy crew. Then one sweaty summer night changed everything.
No one understood me like Dash. No one made me feel so loved. That’s why, when he skipped town, it wrecked me.
Now I’m older. Wiser. I’ve just snagged my dream job, writing at a film studio. The lead animator on my project? You guessed it.
He’s not the boy next door. Not anymore.
I’m guarding my heart this time.
But Dash has secrets that could break us both.
Ella James is BACK and she is kicking up the angst factor in her newest release, THE BOY NEXT DOOR, book two in her Off-Limits Romance Series. To say that this friends-to-lovers romance was a walk in the park would be a HUGE understatement. Like in many of her books, she makes you work for the happily ever after and I think that is the thing that I love most about her style of writing. If you are looking for a light-hearted romance, look somewhere else, because THE BOY NEXT DOOR is everything but.
“I can’t be done with this, with him. Not until I feel more satisfied. Less…used.
Ella James takes us on a journey from past to present with Dash Frasier and Amelia Frank. Complicated from the VERY start, it didn’t look like it was in the stars for these two characters, even though the connection was undeniable. A young girl abandoned by the boy who was her hero, only to have him return and break her heart all over again. No explanation. No warning. Years later they find themselves face to face once again. Playing it off as if they had no history, Dash and Amelia begin a work relationship where tensions are high, and the past is most definitely present.
“This girl is my poison and my cure.”
With the insane chemistry still burning between them, they fall back into each other’s arms, but Dash is holding something back. He is ALWAYS holding something back. He has a secret and it could destroy them both, but he can savor Amelia, the girl who used to look at him with hero-worship eyes, for just a little while. Can’t he? How many times can heart-break until it’s irrevocably destroyed? Can Amelia live with only ever having a part of Dash? Or will she finally find the strength to move on from the past, from the present, and dream for a new future?
Ella James dishes out a real page-turner with THE BOY NEXT DOOR. This is a romance that will keep you on your toes for sure. It’s fascinating and of course SEXY as hell. It’s unique and beautiful and I couldn’t put it down for even a second. Dash and Amelia were fascinating characters and their journey was tough, but their happily ever after was most certainly worth the wait.
