A new story of dangerous temptations from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the This Man trilogy.
Annie has never experienced the 'spark' with a guy-that instant chemistry that renders you weak in the knees. That is, until a night out brings her face to face with the dangerously sexy and mysterious Jack. It's not just a spark that ignites between them. It's an explosion. Jack promises to consume Annie, and he fully delivers on that promise.
Overwhelmed by the intensity of their one night together, Annie slips out of their hotel room. She is certain that a man who's had such a powerful impact on her must be dangerous. She has no idea that he belongs to another. That he's forbidden.
So, I finished an early read of this book a couple of weeks ago, and I’m finally ready to put my feelings down in a review. This one threw me into a tailspin of emotions, putting it mildly. I was sure halfway through this book I was going to rate it on the lower spectrum, but after thinking it through, taking a few weeks and thinking it over, I’ve finally come to the conclusion that THE FORBIDDEN by Jodi Ellen Malpas was in fact, a PRETTY DAMN GOOD thought-provoking and sensual read. I can’t really put down into words what my hold-up was with this, but I can tell you that if a book disrupts your thoughts and messes with your emotions, like this one did for me, chances are…it was a damn good story.
“I feel like Jack was made especially for me, and the fact that I can’t have him is cruel.”
If you’re browsing through reviews for this forbidden romance, you will find out that it’s very hit or miss with avid romance readers out there. But if you think about it…the title…the blurb…if you didn’t know that taboo/forbidden was on the menu, and your review showcases that that’s in fact the reason for your low rating I have to say shame on you. This is the very reason, I had to rethink everything after reading this book. I KNEW it was coming, so why was I in shock when it did happen?!
“The only person in this world who can hurt me is you.”
It’s these types of books that make what I do so worthwhile. I love digging into the heart of a book and figuring out all of the FEELS and all of the EMOTIONS that were taken from it. I love reading other people’s thoughts and point of views on the subject, and then taking another minute to figure out mine and how they differ or how they are similar to others. I could go into it and regurgitate the blurb for you, but I wouldn’t be able to talk much about it without adding spoilers to the mix and I definitely DO NOT want to do that. All I can say is read the blurb, and dive into this knowing that it’s not all unicorns and rainbows here. It’s FORBIDDEN! It’s TABOO! It’s a hard read and for some it may be uncomfortable, but don’t say you weren’t warned! I think that if you are tired of the same ole’ romance reads out there and you want something deep and provoking…if you want your senses heightened and your boundaries pushed, then THE FORBIDDEN is the book for you.
I also need to point out that this is my VERY FIRST Jodi Ellen Malpas read! I know! I know! Don’t throw stones, okay? Many avid fans of hers say that this book is WAY DIFFERENT than her others, but I can’t say that for sure, as I have not delved into her other series. But if she evokes emotions like she did with me in THE FORBIDDEN, well then, SIGN ME UP for her backlist right now!
